Every grade level studies French at Visitation Academy,
which continues the tradition of the Order of the Visitation, whose original monastery was founded in Annecy, France. The curriculum was designed
using the proficiency guidelines set forth by the ACTFL (American Council on
the Teaching of Foreign Languages). The Lower School program is interactive and exploratory. The Middle School program is designed so that students complete the equivalent of French I by the
end of 8th grade.
Work is focused on regular practice in each of the
four areas of language acquisition: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Students also study aspects of French culture, including music, cuisine,
and art. Technology is incorporated into the classes, and laptops are provided
for students to use in the classroom.
